How to Clean and Store Intimate Toys Safely

Good care helps intimate wellness products stay clean, comfortable and ready to use. The correct method depends on the product’s material, construction and water-resistance rating, so always begin with the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.

1. Check the product before cleaning

Switch the product off and disconnect it from charging cables. Look for cracks, peeling surfaces, swelling, loose seams or damaged charging points. Stop using a product if its surface has changed or its electrical components appear damaged.

2. Confirm whether it is waterproof

“Waterproof” and “water-resistant” are not the same. A fully waterproof product may be suitable for rinsing, while a water-resistant product may only tolerate careful wiping. Never submerge a product unless the supplied instructions clearly allow it. Keep charging ports, battery compartments and controls dry when required.

3. Use a gentle cleaning method

For many non-porous silicone or ABS products, warm water and a small amount of mild, unscented soap may be suitable. Clean the surface carefully, including seams and textured areas, without pulling or twisting flexible parts. Avoid bleach, abrasive cleaners, strong fragrances and household disinfectants unless the manufacturer specifically approves them.

For products that cannot be rinsed, use a clean damp cloth and wipe the surface carefully. Do not allow liquid to enter openings or electrical components.

4. Rinse and dry completely

If rinsing is permitted, remove all soap residue. Pat the product dry with a clean, lint-free cloth, then allow it to air-dry fully before charging or storage. Moisture trapped in a pouch, drawer or closed container may encourage odour or material damage.

5. Clean before and after use

Clean a product before its first use and after every use. If a product is shared, follow the manufacturer’s guidance and use suitable barriers where appropriate. Do not move a product between different body areas without cleaning it first.

6. Charge safely

Make sure the product and charging connection are completely dry. Use the supplied or manufacturer-approved charging cable and avoid charging on beds, soft furnishings or near water. Do not use the product while it is charging unless the instructions expressly state that this is safe.

7. Store products separately

Store each product in its own clean, dry pouch or container, away from direct sunlight, heat, dust and sharp objects. Keeping silicone products separate can help prevent surface reactions between different materials. Avoid tightly bending cables or compressing soft products for long periods.

8. Review condition regularly

Before each use, check the surface, controls, battery performance and charging connection. Replace the product if it develops cracks, persistent odour, a sticky texture, unusual heat or unreliable operation.
